Beginning on August 27th, USA Pokemasters can go to their local GameStop and grab their very own Keldeo, also known as the “Colt Pokemon”. Its unique Water/Fighting typing will make it a valuable addition to any team.
Once Keldeo is transferred to Pokemon Black/White 2 it will gain access to it’s additional form, and learn its signature move Secret Sword. This event won’t last long, so be sure you don’t miss out on adding this special Pokemon to your team!
We finally have what you’ve all been waiting for: the podcast where we totally geek out about all things Pokémon Black and White. We also talk about fetuses, trash bags, drag queens, juggalos, crystal meth and the 3DS.

Ash is celebrating the release of Pokemon Black and White with his favorite black and white outfit.
Hello! My name is Aron, and I’m a Pokeholic. I’ve played nearly every version since the beginning. When the Pokemon cartoon’s theme song stated there were “150 or more” Pokemon, no one ever quite expected the ranks of these little critters to reach the staggering total of over 600 they are at today. As soon as Pokemon Black and White were announced, naysayers were talking about how a fifth generation of Pokemon was overkill, but somehow Game Freak recaptured the magic one more time.
When you make your first trip to the Unova region, you will notice that on the surface, not much has changed. You are still playing the role of a youngster setting out to complete a Pokedex, just like in each preceding game. However, instead of one rival you will now have two, but unfortunately neither one can be named. This is also the first time that the region’s Pokemon professor has been a woman. Once you set out into the world, you will notice a level of graphical refinement previously unseen in this franchise. Autumn leaves blow through the air and speckle the pavement in some areas, buildings and backgrounds look better than ever, and there is now a city rendered in full 3D. In a battle scene, the Pokemon even have a few frames of animation so they no longer just stand still. These graphical goodies pair up with a new dynamic battle camera to make a Pokemon game like none other.
Opening cinematic for Pokemon Black and White. GEE THANKS IGN!!!
As mentioned, those were only some of the surface changes. There are huge amounts of changes made to game mechanics that have yet to be explored. Tons of new abilities and moves have been thrown into the mix, along with new battle types such as Triple Battles and Rotation Battles. At this point in the game, the only new battle type I’ve had is a Rotation Battle. It was a little confusing at first, but once the concept of it clicked with me I could definitely see the appeal. If you’re planning on doing a lot of these Rotation Battles you may need to construct a specially designed team.
So far it seems like the developers crammed enough stuff into Pokemon Black to keep raging Pokeholics like myself hooked for a very long time. There is a ton of material here to delve into. So much, in fact, that at 16 hours of play time I am just feeling like I can write about the first impressions the game has made on me. Whether this is your first for tenth Pokemon excursion, there is bound to be things in this game to entertain and delight you. There is a simple enough base game here for younger people, but more mature trainers can find plenty of complexity. What are your thoughts on the game so far? Is it more of the same, or a true step forward for this flagship Nintendo franchise? Get the ball rolling in the comments below!
Since the highly anticipated Pokémon Black and White’s release date is only four days away for those lucky yiffers in Japan, we should all take a moment to drool over some of the new features the development team at GameFreak will be laying on us in 2011. If you thought Diamond/Pearl/Platinum was full of ooey gooey Pokémon newness, it’s safe to say that the 4th Generation games will look like stale old bread crust once Black and White hits the US in early 2011. Hey Pokefans, Pokemon Black and White has been a little scarce with the videos until now! We get a really thorough look at the newest title in the popular franchise. Sure, it’s completely in Japanese, but you will still be able to see a lot of what they have in store for us when it lands in your hands. Seems like there is going to a lot of different ways to interact with other people in this version. Overall from this glimpse, I’m sold. If everything pans out, if you have not gotten Pokemon fever, this may infect you. Check it out! Continue Reading
I can’t count the number of times I’ve broken-down how Pokemon could evolve into an MMO. The game just seems to scream it! With the latest discovery of two major new features in the upcoming Black and White versions, it’s looking like the series is taking a step in the right direction and broadening the social aspects of monster catching well beyond just trading and battling.
A Japanese gaming magazine has leaked images of a feature called Live Caster with which up to four players on a local wireless connection or two players on a wi-fi connection will be able to video chat. I’m not sure why Pokemon needs this, but it’s still pretty damn cool!
Another feature known as High Link will allow trainers around the world to meet at quest hubs throughout the world to team up and explore, battle co-operatively and overcome various other challenges via Wi-Fi. As if that weren’t enough, the games will both feature a tag mode which will allow players to exchange information as they pass each other by ala Nintendogs and unlock various undisclosed advantages.
Pokemon Black and White are set to release September 18th in Japan and a US release is anticipated in 2011.
RoboAwesome was a fun place for some friends to get together and write about games, and get on Skype to talk about poop and stuff. We had a fun few years, but have all moved on to other projects. This exists solely for prosperity's sake.
You can listen to old episodes of our podcast here or find it on iTunes. There are a few episodes in the middle of the series that are missing from the feed, so you can download the .zip file of them here if you wish.
A big thanks to all of those who supported us over the years. If you are sad that we're gone, don't worry. Just don your jet pack and find us in the floating RoboFortress that hovers over the earth at all times. There you will find us, eating crunchy snacks, guzzling energy drinks, and talking about tentacle rape (still).
